Lloyd Dubois | Regina, SK

Lloyd Dubois is from the Pasqua First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada.  His father is Cree and his mother is Ojibway.  He has five siblings, three who are practicing artists, and he presently resides in Regina.  Lloyd is a graduate from the University of Regina (B.A. English, M.A. English) and currently he teaches first-year English Literature for the University of Regina.  Lloyd has taken several studio courses in drawing and painting and is currently exploring his interests and talents with creative writing.

“It is always a challenge to paint on a two-dimensional surface my understanding of ceremonial culture.  The subjects that inform my visual eye appear to me as animal forms, plant forms, and other not-so-recognized entities from both waking and sleeping dreams.  I like to work with acrylic paint because I like its permanence and the unforgiving effect/affect the paint has on my subjects.  I suppose the other route to take would be to sit down in prayer and pray to these “spirits”, but that, in itself, is another story.  Perhaps one day I will write of such things.”
